A lovely continuum
There are many ways to describe human sexuality and gender. One way to start understanding gender (outside of the dichotomous nature in which we have been raised to understand it) is to think of gender on a continuum or spectrum. The traditional framework found in American culture (as well as others) for understanding gender portrays men and women as polar opposites. This isolates and limits every individual within society. Picturing gender as existing on a continuum allows for more variation and inclusion of individuals.
